This Thursday, April 7th is National Beer Day and there is no better time to get out and check out some of the coolest brews NYC’s microbreweries have on tap.

With craft beer successfully taking over the cool happy hour scene over the last few years, there is a growing culture attached to the fizzy drink; and if you don’t believe us, New York’s finest aficionados might just change your mind.

We begin with Singlecut Beersmiths in Astoria, who have been steadily on the rise since they burst onto the scene. Not only can you visit their taproom where they offer the full run of brews, food, tours and live music, but their wares have spread to some of the coolest restaurants across the city. They offer year round staples, rotating favorites and a new seasonal selection as the weather changes.

In addition to their great rotating selection, they even did a special collaboration with Transmitter Brewing (a Queens nano-brewery), to release a tart and herbal Gose for the upcoming Queens Beer Week taking place in May.

Not to be outdone, neighboring brewmasters at Big aLICe in the nearby Long Island City have more recently put their stamp on the Queens nano-brew scene.  With extremely small batches and locally sourced ingredients, they collaborate with fellow Long Island City businesses to come up with new flavors all the time. With so much rotation, they often run competitions where fellow beer drinkers can vote on what archived brews should be resurrected. Their super cozy taproom on 43rd Road off Vernon Blvd is a perfect place to enjoy a pint while taking in the view of Manhattan skyline.

Finally, for those Manhattan bound folks, a long standing New York favorite is Alphabet City Brewing Company. Established in 2012, it didn’t take long for their brews to take off. Their setup started and remains on the Lower East Side, and features favorites like the “Easy Blonde” pale ale and “Alpha Male” IPA.

In addition to their killer selection of beer, they also have a classic pub menu and a selection of bottled brews to take home with you.
