International Women’s Day is a long-standing tradition in celebration of women that takes place all around the world. There are different theories regarding the origins of this holiday. Some say it was set aside to pay respect to the hundreds of women workers lost in a terrible factory fire in New York during 1911, while others say it began in support of women’s suffrage, the movement that advocated for women’s equal voting rights. Some connect it to March 8th 1917, when the women of St. Petersburg were protesting against the war.

In Italy, the tradition of Women’s Day began several years later, and for that, the yellow mimosa plant was chosen as its symbol. The leaves of this plant bloom in early March, and generate a bright yellow flower with an intense aroma.

Perhaps you are organizing an event to celebrate and appreciate all the important women in your life, but did you decide what to get your girlfriends, mother or sister? Here are some ideas, each with a touch of yellow to honor the cause.
