It’s frigid these days in February, and while the snow is beautiful, palm trees seem to be calling our name. An island escape is almost necessary at this time of year, it completely recharges you. The cold, gray days can become solemn and boring, however there is a solution. Vitamin D, salt water, and leisure time are just what the doctor ordered. The Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Puerto Rico are all desirable destinations, and fairly budget-friendly trips. So gather your things, get away, and get refreshed.

When jetting away in the winter, you don’t need much. These types of quick jaunts are simply to clear the air and lift your spirits. I suggest packing light in an effort to simplify the experience, leaving the makeup and hair dryer at home. Grab the essentials: a killer swimsuit, sexy sandals, and manicured nails… the rest are merely details.

Swimsuit shopping has negative connotations for many women, however it doesn’t have to be that way. There are endless styles to choose from, so go for what looks best on your body and gives you the most confidence. Choose a color or pattern that you love and complements your skin tone. I’m super into this red one-piece from Vitamin A.

A metallic sandal, usually in gold, is critical in achieving that beach bombshell look you’ve always dreamt about. It’s also important that the sandal is somewhat heeled: it elongates, shapes, and instantly adds sex appeal. Think vintage Vegas poolside in the 1960s… hot! My favorite is the Camdyn wedge from Donald J. Pilner. Sexy and comfortable.

Going away represents a break from daily life, and with that comes a break from the beauty regimen. Getting a manicure and pedicure is necessary before you go, however focusing too much on makeup and hair while you’re there is almost counter productive. Bring along a good moisturizer and sun block; oil-free and non-comedogenic products will protect the skin while simultaneously allowing it to breathe. As far as the hair, surf and sun alone will give it an effortless tousled look, however a light moisturizing creme will nourish and accentuate the style. Try Hair Balm by Hairstory Studio.  The last thing you want to do is return looking all dried out.

Getting tranquil in the tropics is sure to get you through the rest of winter. Just one carry-on and you’re gone, you’ll be sublime in the sun and ready for some fun.
