Antioxidizing, anti-stress, and healing in its practice, Bikram Yoga is a great activity for a healthy mind in a healthy body that is suitable for people of all ages.  Bikram Yoga is named after Bikram Choudhury, the yoga master of Calcutta who created it, and who is responsible for spreading this discipline throughout the world, especially popular in the United States and Italy.

Sweat and resistance

How does one practice this discipline? With the guidance of an experienced teacher, in a 90-minute session you will go thrugh a dynamic series of 26 asanas (postures) of Hatha Yoga, plus two breathing exercises. You will work out to activate every organ and every cell in your body.

The main characteristic is that this yoga requires an outside temperature higher that the one of your body: It must be done in a over 100 degrees and with 40 percent of humidity. Students simply equip themselves with appropriate clothing, a mat, a towel and a water bottle.

The heat makes this practice an ideal activity during winter, rather than the usual gym. The temperature makes the muscles less stiff and easier to move. Bikram yoga helps you to purify the body and eliminate toxins through sweat, and also to lose the excess liquid in your body. This is good for you skin, and helps you lose weight. At the same time, the practice fortifies us inwardly, helping us to find serenity, balance and the capacity for resistance and resilience. In this way, with only one discipline, you have the benefits of sauna, turkish bath, fitness and meditation.

Because of its success, Bikram it is not destined to be an of-the-moment fad, but it’s attracting more and more people who care for their physical and mental shape.

Where to practice Bikram Yoga in Italy and in the U.S.A

In the United States, Bikram Yoga is well known and widespread, we frequent one of the most famous studios in New York, Bikram YogaNYC.

In Italy, the hottest and coolest yoga is having a lot of success and is becoming very popular.  If looking for a class, be sure to seek official centers with qualified teachers. In Rome there are two: Bikram Yoga Rome in Via Aurelia, and the new Bikram Yoga True Love in the Montesacro quarter. In Northern Italy, there is the Spera Bikram Yoga in Milan, and another one in Padua.
