When it comes to celebrating the festive season, no one does the job quite like New York City. Buildings are trussed up like presents and 10 story trees are lit up in every park and square.

One thing New York shares with some of the best cities the world over is it’s love for a good outdoor market. This time of year, the stalls are packed with everything from accessories, home goods, fashion and skincare, so get your walking boots and wallet ready.

The classic and most noteworthy of NYC’s outdoor holiday gems is the Union Square Holiday Market. Rows of stalls with the best handcrafted goods New York’s artists have to offer, including Dr. Softskin’s Handmade Body Emporium. A body care brand with shea butter formulas and fragrances dedicated to things like muscle relaxation, stress relief and focus, they have an option for everyone. The standout item and the perfect addition to anyone’s stocking is their lotion candle. Available in an array of sizes you simply burn the candle until the wax melts and then massage into your skin. Aromatherapy plus a lovely smelling home and soft skin? Yes please!

Not to be outdone, Bryant Park’s mega Winter Village not only features an ice skating rink and a bar, but a collection of some really wonderful retail and food vendors. They offer some amazing goodies, just a quick walk from some of the best and most popular places to shop in NYC. A New York flea market veteran Pamela Barsky has set up shop here for the holidays (along with several other locations), and has a plethora of her hilarious and super high quality canvas bags up for grabs. Used for travel or simply carting around your daily essentials, there is a hilarious saying for even the hardest of humors on your “to buy” list.

Rounding out some classic locations is the Grand Central Holiday Fair. This market has the benefit of being indoors and conveniently located for those New Yorkers that spend a lot of time traveling this time of year. With some really lovely high end selections, this is a great market to look into if you’re shopping for art and decorative pieces. The handmade ceramics and pottery brand Bailey Doesn’t Bark has set up shop here, and has a boss selection of bowls, platters and their famous “ring cones” for the person on your list who loves to display their accessories in a beautiful way.

While the island of Manhattan has a multitude of things to offer, the outer boroughs are getting in on the action, too. Brooklyn Flea has a holiday selection, and with Smorgasburg on the premises you’re sure to find great stuff for the foodie on your list. Also, starting December 10th, the Astoria Holiday Market launches at the Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden. This way as soon as you’re done shopping you can grab a pitcher and some pierogi to keep warm.

Hopefully this gave you somewhere to get started for all of your favorite stockings in need of filling. Will you be checking out any markets this year?
