“Scarves tend to be this very functional item. I wanted to create a scarf that when people look at it and by touching it, they know the quality is there”. -Virginia Blanca Arrisueño, Founder and Designer of DeNada Design.

With scarf season in full swing, we are on the hunt for fashionable, warm scarves and cold weather accessories to keep us looking chic through the cooler temps. On our must-have list is DeNada Design, an emerging accessories line founded by designer Virginia Blanca Arrisueño in 2005, based in Washington DC. DeNada Design specializes in Peruvian handmade knits for women and men, with a focus on blending contemporary styles with ethnic elements to offer stylish yet high-quality merchandise.

Virginia is inspired by the culture and traditions of her Peruvian heritage, and her design aesthetic for scarves is not to create a traditional scarf, but to take the idea of a scarf and transform it so that it’s new, innovative, and can be worn in different ways. Her designs each begin with a sketch, she then uses knitting needles or a sewing machine and experiments with textures and patterns to create samples. The samples are then transported by hand to Peru, where Virginia works alongside skilled artisans to create DeNada’s products using an alpaca blend for softness and quality. While DeNada Design is based in Washington, DC, their products are sold online and at select retailers throughout the world.

The DeNada Design collection is all impressive, making it hard to choose favorites, but based on uniqueness and innovation, we have picked three items you need from DeNada in your winter wardrobe this year.

Alpaca Knit Infinity Loop Scarf

This versatile scarf can be worn around the neck as a scarf or pulled over the head as a hood.

Alpaca Fingerless Arm Warmers

These arm warmers can be worn extended up the arm for added warmth, or scrunched up for an edgier feel.

Alpaca Shawl Wrap

This stylish shawl has a scarf-front collar that can be draped over shoulders or pulled across the chest and tied at the waist.
