Once upon a time, not too, too long ago, a lady wouldn’t dare leave the house without proper gloves. Nor would she get behind the wheel without donning her pair of driving gloves. Gloves were an every day must, like a hat or perfectly coiffed hair. Picture the iconic images of Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn. Naked fingers? How gauche! And here we are again. We’re lusting for gloves, not only because they are a huge trend for fall 2015, but because we have always loved them, reminding us of those well-dressed and stylish days. They can be “Grace” prim and proper or tough and sexy. We love the nostalgic ones as much as the rock star chic versions. They can really amp up any outfit. And no, we’re not thinking mittens for frosty NYC winters. That’s a whole other story.

Go Tartan!

Portolano’s Plaid Cashmere Black Leather Gloves work for preppy chic types and punk rock girls, since the Tartan pattern can truly swing both ways. From uptown sophisticate to downtown badass babe, they go with skinny leather pants or shredded-at-the-knee black denim as well as creamy cashmere sweaters and luxe caramel-colored wool coats.

Arm Warmers

We also adore this cozy cable-knit pair in grey wool and these Hand-knit Arm Warmers, crafted by grannies! Going fingerless allows you to show off all that glam jewelry. Wear them under a leather jacket, as seen above.

These glamorous and feminine Vintage Styles aren’t limited to vintage vixens who love all things retro. They work especially well in contrast with modern pieces. But you can certainly wear them with the season’s pretty nostalgic blouses, cute sweaters and throwback Tweed skirts for a ladylike look.

For a spot of rock star chic, go black. These Fingerless Lambskin Gloves with stainless steel chain fringe trim are both haute and punk. It’s a great way to show off statement nails! The Jungle Tribe Beastly Gloves with black studs and snakeskin, too, are both stylish and full of attitude, perfect for a wild night out or an art gallery opening where everyone looks just so eclectically eccentric.

Driving Gloves

Driving gloves come from an era (late 19th to early 20th century) when they were both a necessity and part of formal driving wear. While our cars still have glove compartments, they are now redundant but oh so chic – even if you car is not a convertible. Get a fingerless, made-in-Italy pair in soft lambskin to add color and panache to your fall outfits.
