Sometimes, for those of us who live in big cities, exciting things can be happening right under our noses and we don’t even know it. Out of our frame of reference, out of our mind.

If you happen to live in NYC, don’t let that happen to you, and turn your attention towards Techweek, a weeklong festival where startups and entrepreneurs come to meet and greet, kicking off Monday, October 12. According to its website, Techweek is a celebration of entrepreneurs, thought leaders, tech partners, and visionaries. The attendees are from every industry across the board, and the numbers of companies are in the thousands.

The whole festival is in honor of technology, yes, but it’s more than that. Picture this: the leading names in startups, think tanks, and Fortune 500 companies in one room bouncing ideas off each other. Senior executives meeting budding business owners meeting 9-5ers with a vision. Sounds like an exciting energy for one room! The idea is to gather the local community together for them to feature their exciting new developments, and showcase those ideas for global tech community at large.

Techweek started a short 4 years ago, in July 2011. After expanding to cities like Chicago, Detroit, LA, Kansas City, and Miami, it now can boast nearly 20,000 participants in attendance.

As for its New York festival, the event page updates every day as they add new speakers, but some noteworthy names anticipated to be in attendance are: Morgan Hermand-Waiche, Founder of AdoreMe; Caroline Avakain, Founder of SourceRise; Al Roker, famed news anchor and President and CEO of Al Roker Entertainment; and many more. The celebration will take place the Metropolian Pavlion, located in Chelsea’s Ladies’ Mile Historic District, right next to the artsy and trendy High Line.

The schedule for the week is jam packed. It starts out with a conference, including speeches from the keynote speakers, workshops, panel discussions, and Q&As with various leaders of industry. Later in the week, an Expo takes place where startups and Fortune 500 companies alike showcase their new products. Participants present their newest ideas in front of thousands of Techweek attendees.

Personally? We’re most excited about the FashionTECH Runway show. This fashion show showcases the latest in wearable technology, and features designs that blend style and tech from e-commerce brands and local entrepreneurs.

Other fun events taking place over the week are a mini music festival, startup competition, and 24 coding marathon for web developers.

Interested? Good news: Attending the Expo and parties are free if you register here, and a reasonably priced $100 pass will get you into nearly any event you want to attend. Explore and discover the latest developments in your own community and get inspired to make a change globally.
