No matter where you’re getting your beauty inspiration from, the 90’s lip is no doubt a trend you’ve come across a lot. With Kylie Jenner’s enviable pout (even if it’s artificially enhanced) all over Instagram, it’s hard not to covet the look for yourself.

Depending on your comfort level with taking beauty risks, there are a couple of ways you can go about getting this look. There is the classic and ubiquitous “your lips but better” shade of rose brown if you’re feeling understated, or if you are a little more daring, a nice vampy shade of raisin red.

For best results when lining your lips, always start from the center and work your way out to keep the lines even. If you define your cupid’s bow first, you stand a better chance of winding up with an even pout.

To get the best vampy pout with a 90’s vibe, you want to look for deep brown-based reds that have a hint of purple to them. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Anita is the perfect brown burgundy shade and the best part is their new Ready To Wear formula allows for easy direct from the tube application. (They’re vegan too!) For a nice clean line underneath, NARS Velvet Lip Liner in Lanakai will add depth and a touch of a matte finish for a deep and long lasting color.

For a more wearable and classic deep nude shade, our favorite product to make the look nearly fool proof is MAC Cosmetics Lip Liner in Whirl. Follow that with Urban Decay’s brand new Matte Revolution Lipstick in (the very aptly named) shade 1993.
