Tweed is so prep school and British country chic. We love a traditional knee-length skirt with pleats as much as a punk-y mini or a secretary sexy pencil version. Right now the trends range from playful minis to haute asymmetrical to flirty fringe. They can be worn with flats, boots, sexy heels or towering platforms. Appropriate tops range from little femme fatale sweaters and school girl cardigans to the fall 2015 comeback kid, the turtleneck, to every super model’s must-have, the leather jacket. All eyes are on tweed and here are some of our latest obsessions.

Modcloth Tweed Skirts

Nostalgic

Let’s start with a look that’s very vintage and conjures an image of an author, very proper and intellectual. It recalls book clubs and all-girl schools. It looks great with horn-rimmed glasses and little sweaters. We have our eyes on the Vintage Silver Screenwriter Skirt and Scholarly Statement Skirt from Modcloth. Both look like you should be carrying around a copy of Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar or be typing out a novel on your old-school Underwood typewriter. But no need to go all-out blast-from-the-past. Unless you really, really love saddle shoes!

Tweed Skirts: Marni and Boden

Nix Tradition

A long way from preppy cool is the is asymmetrical A-line take from Marni – proof that tweed is ultra versatile. This big-budget designer splurge is our ultimate covet, but in the meantime we’ll use its inspiration as we explore the racks for a similar look. After all, part of the fun of shopping is the hunt for a great deal! On the more affordable end of the spectrum, how about this cool Boden Mini, styled all British “it girl” with a leather jacket? We see these for Kate Moss and Alex Chung types who need a bit of rock ‘n’ roll.

Fringe Tweed Skirts: MSGM and Milly

Fringe with Benefits

Fringe is here to stay and is not shying away from classic fabrics like tweed. We love this rather pricey pencil fringe skirt from MSGM in heritage tweed as much as this cute, party-perfect mini from Milly. Fringe looks instantly fashionista. If MSGM is a no-no for your budget, shop for similar looks at your fave affordable stores!

Classically Chic

For tweed styles that don’t look trendy but instead ooze timeless luxe and chic, consider this belted mini in a rich wool blend by Polo, as well as the sparkly zip-front pencil from J.CREW. Both options are ladylike and feminine, for those who are over the boho styles, and consider prep girl nostalgia too “now.” We see these versions going easily from the office to dinner, for the girl who likes things a bit more classic.
