Fall is just around the corner, which means “bye bye bikinis” and “hello haute autumn fashion.” We’re excited to wear more structured pieces, to layer, to indulge in velvet and leather, and basically redo our whole closet for the cooler season. Among the many incredible trends this season, here are our most-coveted top 6 fall fashion must-haves:

Car Wash Skirt
This style sounds sort of like something you might find at an old school all-American burger and fries drive-in, but it is ultra chic and definitely a trend in fall 2015. It’s basically a skirt with slits (named after the panels at at car wash), so you can playfully show off some leg without looking like a sex kitten. Since the skirt is fluttery and has movement, keep the top simple. Consider tweed, faux leather, brocade or silk.

Head-to-Toe Black

Black is our everyday go-to uniform anyway, so we’re happy to hear that this season it’s not only completely OK, but a trending look, as evidenced on the runways. Who What Wear shows you how to do it! Also, take some style cues from Diesel’s Black Gold edition. All black is a great, urban, and sophisticated way to take a break from the hippie summer look!

Haute ’70s in Luxe Fabrics and Gypsy Prints

Boho chic is not going anywhere, but for the cooler season the fabrics are lush and more luxe. Think velvet, fur, and tapestry prints. Think more artisanal, craftsman and truly ethnic, something that looks like you picked it up during your international jet-setting travels. Check out Johnny Was for great gypsy luxe and haute hippie pieces. We also love Made for Pearl, inspired by singer Janis Joplin’s flamboyant stage persona, “Pearl,” and created by her own niece! We adore this glam velvet moto jacket.

Pretty and Delicate Blouses

As Topshop says: The Blouse is Now! Blouses are such an easy style: from office chic with a pencil skirt, to paired with tailored trousers, to romantic looks that recall poets of yore and lost romance. As evidenced on the runways from Bottega Veneta to MSGM, there are truly infinite ways to style this season’s pretty and delicate blouses:  see the Vince Cowl Neck Blouse, the silky Scribble Print Tessa Blouse by Milly and the semi-sheer Before Dawn top by Free People.

Slingbacks

A while back, this word would have made us recoil in horror. Really, this odd shoe choice is making a comeback? Then we saw what designers and fashion editors had in mind, and now we are super in love with this versatile style. Consider the Coco era, Parisian-looking classic two-tone midi from Chanel. We hear there’s already a wait list! They’re also great with a chunky heel in a more boot-like, textured version such as this pair by Fergie… yes, that Fergie! Equally lovely is the dainty Kate Spade metallic slingback in old gold. You will realize that you must reconsider this shoe style completely, as it is now available in endless great varieties.

Winter Florals

Winter florals are in full bloom! Petals look feminine and girly, sometimes overly cutesy even, but that’s not what we have in mind. Florals this year are moody and darkly romantic, perhaps in the shape of a sweater or a pretty dress in a heavier fabric. For style inspiration, consider this Stella Jean skirt with black tights and boots, and this versatile top by Joie.
